Annual IRS Form 990 filing & Candid Profile

$$$ Is your 990 filing current? $$$

Nonprofits must file Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N (e-Postcard) annually. The deadline is the 15th day of the 5th month after their fiscal year ends (e.g., May 15 for calendar-year organizations). Failure to file for three consecutive years results in automatic revocation of your tax-exempt status.

Key Details on 990 Filing Frequency:

· Annual Requirement: Almost all 501(c)(3) organizations must file every year, even if they have no financial activity.

· Small Organizations: Nonprofits with annual gross receipts of less than or equal to $50,000 can file the 990-N "e-Postcard".

· Medium/Large Organizations: Organizations with gross receipts over $50,000 file Form 990-EZ or Form 990.

· Deadline: For a calendar year-end (Dec 31), the form is due May 15 of the following year.

$$$ Is your Candid profile up to date? $$$

Many donors and foundations use https://candid.org/ (formerly known as Guidestar) when researching non-profits they may want to support. You can find any non-profit on this website either by searching for the name of an organization or an EIN. Candid offers recognition for non-profits that are transparent with accountability measures. There is no charge to update your organization’s profile. We would encourage you to display the “badge” such as a “Platinum Transparency” seal on your website. The more information you provide, the higher recognition you receive (e.g. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum).
